In mid-May, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg tested a prototype of Project Cambria’s mixed reality headset.
It is noteworthy that in the video, the prototype VR helmet was hidden from the audience and shown only in general terms, since its final design is not yet ready.
In the video, Zuckerberg chats and plays with a virtual pet in mixed reality. It also checks the operation of the device in office mode, writes in a notepad, works with window applications. As a relief, Zuckerberg showed that in the headset you can do physical education with a virtual trainer.
On May 12, Meta showed the capabilities of the platform for the development of augmented and mixed reality Presence. On its basis, the company’s developers have already created several mixed reality applications for Project Cambria.
Earlier in the 2021
In the fall of 2021, it became known that Facebook is developing a virtual reality headset that will become part of the company’s metaverse. The VR helmet, codenamed Project Cambria, is due out in 2022. Also, a division of Reality Labs is working on a haptic glove that reproduces the sensations of capturing an object or surface in virtual reality.
Meta has promised that Cambria will include features not currently available on other VR headsets. New sensors in the device will allow the virtual avatar to maintain eye contact and reflect human facial expressions. Another unique direction is mixed reality. Facebook claims that with the help of new sensors and reconstruction algorithms, Cambria will be able to represent objects in the physical world with a sense of depth and perspective. Cambria will also introduce new optics that the company says will improve image quality.
