The Minister of Education of the Netherlands and the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of the Netherlands wrote a letter to the Dutch parliament, expressing concern about the personal data of students. Ministers argue that large companies' data use policies are not transparent enough and companies may use students' personal information for monetization outside of education.

Along with this, the ministry held a meeting with Google, Microsoft and Zoom on data security. Google assured that by August 2023 it will release new versions of Chrome OS and the Chrome browser, introducing more transparent terms and mechanisms for using user data. Until then, the Dutch Ministry of Education imposes a restriction on the use of the company's products in schools and higher education institutions.

If educational organizations in the country want to continue using Google services, then they need to comply with a set of special rules and recommendations. So on all educational devices, the spell checking function and automatic page translation should be disabled. Also, the data of the Google Cloud cloud platform must be stored in the EU, and users must not have access to the choice of storage region.
