The Chinese company Loongson introduced its own iGPU

The Chinese company Loongson introduced a chipset with an integrated graphics processor of its own design. It is noted that the presented iGPU is inferior in performance to solutions from AMD and Intel, but supports work with modern technologies.

Foreign journalists noted that the iGPU from the Chinese Loongson is comparable in performance to graphics chips from 2005. The chipset supports OpenGL 2.1/OpenGL ES 2.0 and can display images on two monitors with a resolution of 1920x1080 at 60Hz or 2560x1440 at 30Hz. At the same time, the GPU does not work with DirectX, which does not allow it to be used on devices running even outdated Windows 7.

The presented chipset is designed to work in conjunction with the proprietary Loongson processor, which is built on the proprietary LoongArch architecture. Only some Linux-based operating systems support this architecture.

The chipset

Among other things, the chipset can work with PCIe 3.0, SATA 3 at 6 Gb / s, USB 3.0, UART, Gigabit Ethernet and GPIO. The company also said that some local manufacturers are already ready to produce compatible motherboards.

Journalists from Tom's Hardware noted that the chipset was developed for Chinese government organizations. In this case, an analog with characteristics lagging behind by several years is in any case perceived better than its absence.
