Stallman has produced a guide to the GNU C Language and Extensions called the GNU C Language Intro and Reference Manual

On September 6, 2022, Richard Matthew Stallman (RMS), the founder of the Free Software Movement and the GNU Project, released the initial version of a manual on the C language and GNU extensions, called the GNU C Language Intro and Reference Manual.

Stallman has co-authored this manual with Trevis Rothwell, author of The GNU C Reference Manual, from which Stallman has drawn excerpts in his manual, and Nelson Beebe, who wrote the chapter on floating point math.

The GNU C Language Intro and Reference Manual states in the introduction that it is intended for people new to programming, people with experience with other languages, and people who want to learn C, but also to act as a reference for C programmers. The manual details the language extensions developed by the GNU Project.

A version of the manual is now available for anyone who wishes to make an initial proofreading. Stallman is asking for feedback on any inaccuracies or difficult-to-follow statements.

OpenNET users have made Stallman's guide publicly available in html and pdf.

In October 2018, Stallman published a guide to pleasant communication in GNU projects.
