Python | A program for extracting frames using OpenCV

| | | |

The OpenCv library can be used to perform several operations on video. Let’s try to do something interesting using CV2. Take video as input and split the video frame by frame and save those frames. Now a number of operations can be performed on these frames. Like flipping a video file or cropping a video, etc. To play the video in reverse, we only need to keep the frames in the list and iterate in the frame list. Use the reverse list method to reorder the frames in the list.

Function used:

VideoCapture (File_path): Read the video (.mp4 format)

read (): Read data depending upon the type of object that calls

imwrite (filename, img [, params]): Saves an image to a specified file.

Below is the implementation:

# Video reader
# and extract frames

import cv2

# Function for extracting frames

def FrameCapture (path):

  # Path to video file

vidObj = cv2. VideoCapture (path)

# Used as counter variable

count = 0

# checks if frames have been extracted

success = 1

while   success:

# vidObj object invokes read

# frame extraction function

success, image = vidObj.read ()

# Saves frames with frame count

cv2.imwrite ( "frame% d.jpg" % count, image)

count + =   1

Driver code

if __ name__ = = ’__main__’ :

  # Function call

FrameCapture ( "C: Users Admin PycharmProjects project_1 openCV.mp4 " )
