The Linux Foundation announced that Meta has transferred the PyTorch machine learning framework to the PyTorch Foundation division. The development will be handled by the Linux Foundation, and Meta has promised to support the project.

Ibrahim Haddad, vice president for strategic programs at the Linux Foundation, has been named executive director of PyTorch. The project will be managed by the newly created PyTorch Foundation. Its board includes representatives from Google Cloud, Meta, Microsoft Azure, Nvidia, Amazon Web Services and AMD.

Work on the framework will be led by the developer community and the original founding team of the framework. The Linux Foundation plans to develop an ecosystem, training and certification programmes, search platforms and global events.
Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin thanked the Meta team for their trust, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised to continue supporting PyTorch and advancing research in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
