The new iPad (tenth generation) has been available for purchase since autumn, and we were allowed to test the Apple tablet in a hands-on. One thing is certain: The hobby photographers and creative types among you will be particularly enthusiastic - and that's where the differences lie compared to the predecessor model.

As every year, technology enthusiasts eagerly await Apple's big keynote speech in September, where CEO Tim Cook presents the latest products to the world. This year, among other things, there are two new iPad models, one of which we were able to test hands-on. Besides the technical upgrades, however, the iPad and iPad Pro have some other cool features that will delight creatives in particular.
The iPad 2022 in the test
The regular iPad is the classic among Apple tablets and is therefore one of the most popular models. It is affordable, has not too much but also not too little power and the optimal size for standard use. There are now four different iPad models in Apple's tablet range: iPad, iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad Mini.
iPad comparison: What is the difference between iPad and iPad Pro?
The new iPad Pro, as the name suggests, is primarily for professionals. For all those who need a lot of storage space and power (e.g. photographers, graphic designers or architects). Compared to the iPad, the iPad Pro has more storage space (up to 2 TB). In addition, the display of the iPad Pro is somewhat larger and has a higher resolution. However, the iPad Pro costs significantly more than the other models (from 1049 euros), which is why we want to know: What can the cheaper new iPad do?
Apple's iPad 2022: Perfect for all creative minds
During hands-on, I find that for me personally, the iPad is a good intermediate solution between a mobile phone and a laptop. It's bigger than a mobile phone, lighter than a laptop and perfect for editing pictures or watching films while travelling. But since I don't work with it professionally, the iPad is completely sufficient for me. Only the professionals will be able to tell the difference between the Liquid Retina XDR display (iPad Pro) and Liquid Retina display (iPad, iPad Mini and iPad Air).
iPad 2022: The camera in the test
Anyone who thinks the iPad Pro is far ahead of all other models when it comes to the camera is mistaken. Because since this year, the classic iPad is now also available with a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, and thus all current iPads now have the same camera. Because since last year, the iPad Mini has also been available with a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera. In a direct comparison between the iPad, iPad Pro and iPad Mini, you can no longer tell the difference - but taking photos is much easier with the iPad and iPad Mini than with the iPad Pro because of their size. For editing pictures, on the other hand, a larger display is again an advantage.
iPad 2022: New features and functions
New colours
While the last generation iPad was only available in grey and silver, we can now look forward to more colour. With the tenth generation, the iPad is now available in blue, pink, yellow and silver.
New cameras
As already mentioned, the camera in the new iPad has also been upgraded. It is now available as a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, and the ultra-wide-angle front camera has also been revised. The 12 pixels have remained the same, but the position is new. The front camera is no longer located on the narrow upper side, but along the long side. Among other things, this means that you can now easily make video calls when the iPad is set up and look directly into the camera.
New keyboard
A new keyboard is available for the iPad to make work even easier and more effective and to replace the laptop. The Magic Keyboard Folio (from 299 euros) is a detachable keyboard that clamps to the iPad with a magnet and also has a protective cover that not only protects the back, but also has an integrated support that makes it possible to stand the iPad up like a laptop. The keys are the same size as the keyboard of a laptop and thus make working much easier. In addition, there's a trackpad, which means you can no longer type on the display with your finger, but can operate everything via the keyboard.

Accessories for the Apple iPad
When you buy the iPad, you only get the USB-C charging cable and the USB-C power adapter with it. But in addition, there are a few practical accessories that make it easier to work, play and be creative with the iPad. My favourites: the Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard Folio.
The Apple Pencil
It's a little surprising that the new iPad is still only compatible with the first-generation Apple Pencil (119 euros), while the iPad Mini has been working with the second-generation Apple Pencil since last year (149 euros). Nevertheless, I would always recommend the Apple Pencil as an add-on, because it makes many things easier. For example, you can click more precisely than with your finger, write notes "by hand" or paint real works of art with a creative app.
The Magic Keyboard Folio
We've already told you about the new keyboard, and if you're going for the new iPad, you're in luck, because the Magic Keyboard Folio is only compatible with it so far. What we still miss on the Apple keyboards: illuminated keys so you can work in the dark.
