IKEA announced on the company's blog about the imminent launch of Dirigera, a new smart home hub. The system will work on the basis of the Matter protocol from Google, which will simplify the connection of third-party devices.
The hub will work together with the proprietary IKEA Home application, through which both the hub itself and the devices connected to it are configured. In the application, you can combine gadgets into groups and set scenarios for offline work.
The company said that it took into account the wishes of users and worked on the compatibility of gadgets. The fact is that the previous generation of Tradfri hubs could work with a limited list of smart electronics manufacturers. Now IKEA has switched to the Matter protocol, and it will be possible to connect almost any gadgets from manufacturers that are members of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) to the hub. These companies include Apple, Google, Samsung, Amazon, Oppo, Huawei, Sber Devices and others.
Official presentation of the Matter protocol
It is expected that the official presentation of the Matter protocol will take place in the fall of 2022, and the Dirigera hub will go on sale in October of the same year. Along with this, an update to the IKEA Home app is expected.
